Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have a Shimano press fit bottom bracket, which tool do I need?

A. BB86/BB92

Q. Are you sure, my old BB says Shimano BB71 on it?

A. Yes, all Shimano press fit are BB86/BB92 standard. BB71 is just the model number (and BB72, BB91, BB93, BB94)

Q. Shimano have a ridiculous naming convention for their press fit BB range don't they?

A. Yes, yes they do

Q. I have a Connondale bike with a BB30 logo on the frame, so I must have a BB30 bottom bracket, yes?

A. Not necessarily.  For a few years now, they have been putting a BB30 logo on bikes that actually have a PF30 bottom bracket.  Please check your spec with Cannondale, if they state 'PressFit30', this is actually PF30

Q. I have a Campagnolo Ultra Torque bottom bracket, which tool do I need?

A. Ultra Torque installation can be complicated, so it's unlikely just one of our tools will do the job.  If you can provide a link to the installation instructions we will be able to advise you on your options

Q. I have a Hope PF41/PF46 bottom bracket, which tool do I need?

A. Hope have made the installation process sufficiently complicated that you need to buy their own tool

Q. Do you sell a puller removal tool for BB86/PF30/DUB?  I'd rather not use a hammer
A. No, cup fit bottom brackets have a lip around the outside of the cup, which prevents us from being able to design a puller that is guaranteed to work with all frames.  Using a hammer is perfectly safe

Q. I have got another bike/wheelset, can I just buy additional press plates if I already have one of your press tools?

A. Yes they are available separately in our shop

Q. Are your bottom bracket and wheel press plates interchangeable?

A. No, the BB tools use an M12 threaded bar, the wheel hub tools are M8

Q. Do you recommend using grease or retaining compound, when installing a bottom bracket?

A. We do not have an opinion on this very subjective and controversial topic, please check with the manufacturer of the bike/wheel/bottom bracket

Q. Do I need a 250mm threaded bar with my BB tool?

A. Only if you have a fat bike, otherwise 150mm is long enough for any shell up to 100mm

Q. Does the international shipping include taxes/duty?

A. No, we are unable to collect any international VAT or import duty via this online store, you are responsible for these charges on delivery (this includes customers in the EU).  Purchases made on eBay may have taxes automatically included, depending on your home country
